Marauders of Khorne

By Louis Angelli

The Marauders of Khorne are the servants of the Chaos God Khorne, the Lord of Battle, brutal killers whose every action is committed to honour their vile patron. For the servants of Khorne, glory upon the field of battle is prized above all things, as Khorne takes clear delight in the murder and carnage of combat and there is no surer way to attract his gaze than to slaughter in his name. As such, the Marauders of Khorne live exceptionally violent lives, steeping themselves in depravity and death, seeking the adoration and exaltation of the Khorne in all that they do.  Sometimes the Chaos Lords will send out raiding parties into Mordheim in search of the holy wyrdstone, which can be used to trigger the dark gifts of Khorne or in magical rituals to honor him.  It is considered a great honor for a warrior to be chosen for one of these ventures as the possibility for bloodshed is very high and the opportunities to find wyrdstone are even higher.  The people of Mordheim run when they see the Warriors of Khorne coming for they know that death walks with them.

1 Chaos Champion; 80 Gold Crowns to hire

The frozen north spawns the hardiest warriors of all, and those that lead them to battle are called the Champions of Chaos. Each is a paragon of deadly ability and lethal intent. Some ascend to command entire nations but the majority dedicate themselves to becoming ruthless killers, butchering all those who cross their path..

0-2 Chaos Warriors; 60 Gold Crowns to hire

When roused for a battle, a Chaos Warrior becomes a roaring, unstoppable force. Arrows and bolts patter from his hell-forged armour like hailstones upon a glacier as he strides into the enemy ranks. The thrusts of spear and halberd are deflected contemptuously, and the lifeblood of his foes spatters his armour as his jagged blade rises and falls.

0–2 Bloodletters; 55 Gold Crowns to hire

The Bloodletters form the core of the vast legions of the Lord of Battle. Believed to have been foremost amongst the Blood God's followers in mortal life, their will is as implacable and blood-hungry as Khorne himself. Festooned with rippling muscles, knotted sinews and driven by an unparallel killing instinct, Bloodletters are fearsome opponents.

The men of the north are natural fighters, born into hardship and brought up in a world where only the strong prosper. Every man is expected to be a tough and capable warrior, independent and fierce. Chaos Marauders often fight with heavy axe, blade or flail, and their favourite tactic is to charge in great howling mobs towards the foe.

Blessings of Khorne

Those that worship at the bloody altar of the Lord of Battle are often warped by the dark powers of chaos, which are known as Blessings of Khorne.  Chaos Warriors are not like other warriors, their dedication to their god takes precedence over all other things.  Due to this bloody dedication these warriors have the option to gain Blessings of Khorne.  Instead of a skill advancement a Chaos Warrior can opt to perform a ritual to his dark god and make a roll on the Blessings of Khorne table instead of taking a skill.

But beware Khorne does not suffer fools lightly. If a Warrior gets too greedy in his requests to the Dark God he may invoke the Wrath of Khorne. Each Blessing has a limit on the number of times it may be granted. If this limit is reached then the Warrior instead gains the Wrath listed. Each Wrath may only be received once.  Roll 2d6 and consult the following chart.

Roll Blessing Wrath
2-3 Fury of Khorne:
This warrior is imbued with the spirit of Khorne and attacks his foes with psychotic vigor and and in a bloodthirsty manor.  The Chaos Warrior follows the rules for Berserk (see above).

This blessing may only be received once before invoking Khorne's Wrath.
Daemonic Rage:
The bloodthirsty essence of Khorne is channeling through this Warrior and it is all he can do to control it. This Warrior must make a leadership check at the start of each turn. If he fails the check then he must charge the nearest model friend or foe. Once out of control he will continue to charge the nearest model until he engages someone in hand to hand combat and takes them out of action. Once blood has been spilled the Warrior may begin to test his leadership again at the start of each turn.
4-5 Chaos Helmet:
The Warrior's helmet has been imbued with additional arcane symbols of power and protection. The first time a Warrior gains this blessing he receives a 3+ save versus the affects of being stunned.  If the save is made he will be knocked down instead.  The second granting of this blessing will improve the save to a base 2+.  The third time will invoke the wrath of Khorne.

This blessing may be received 2 times before invoking Khorne's Wrath.
Hubris:
This warrior is so blinded by his own unholy might that his ego and pride swell to dangerous levels. He now truly believes he is infallable and as such there is nothing he does not know or cannot do. This Warrior can no longer gain any experience beyond what he has accumulated.
6 Divine Healing:
Many are drawn to the powers of Chaos with the promise of eternal life as rumors abound that some Chaos Warriors have lived for hundred if not thousands of years in the service of their god. If the warrior has any type of permanent injury randomly roll one and remove it. If the warrior has no injuries than increase their wounds by one up to the racial limit.

If the blessing would take the Warrior above his racial maximum for wounds he has invoked the Wrath of Khorne
Cowardice:
There is nothing Khorne abhors more in his followers than cowardice. This Warrior's constant pleading for healing has annoyed the Dark Lord of Blood and he slowly and painfully kills the Warrior invoking his name. Remove the Warrior from your Warband.
7 Aura of Chaos:
The Warrior begins to glow with the unholy Aura of Chaos. This dark and twisted energy stikes out painfully to all that behold it. This model now causes fear.

This blessing may only be received once before invoking Khorne's Wrath.
Disdain:
The Dark Lord of Chaos, Khorne, chooses to ignore your pleas.
8 Daemon Weapon:
The warrior receives a weapon with a bound Daemon inside it. This weapon adds +1 to his Strength in close combat and grants a +1 To Hit bonus. The user may choose the weapon’s form (a sword, an axe, etc), though it will not have any of the special abilities normally associated with common weapons of that type. An axe with a bound Daemon, for example, will not benefit from the usual extra save modifier.

This blessing may only be received once before invoking Khorne's Wrath.
Soul Drinker:
This weapon is cursed even by Chaos standards. The bloodthirsty weapon begins to feed on the soul of it's wielder. Every time the Warrior rolls a 1 to hit in combat he must instantly suffer 1 S4 hit on himself. A lucky charm may not be used to negate this hit and no armour saves are allowed on any wounds caused.  The Daemon Weapon must be used by the Warrior as he would never part with a gift from Khorne.
9-10 Improved Chaos Armour:
The warrior’s body becomes encrusted with an arcane, all enveloping suit of armour. The first time a Warrior receives this gift his Chaos Armour will grant an additional +1 improvement to the armour save (base 5+).  The second time the armour will grant an additional +1 improvement to the armour save (base 4+).  The third time will grant an additional +1 improvement to the armour save (base 3+). The fourth time will invoke the Wrath of Khorne.

This blessing may be received 3 times before invoking Khorne's Wrath.
Immortality:
Khorne is so impressed with the warrior that he has given him the ultimate gift...Immortality...unfortunately Khorne's idea of granting someone immortality is to transform them into a crazed Daemon which attacks your warband. Remove the Warrior from your roster. During your next battle a Bloodletter will be placed in the center of the table. After all players have taken their turn your opponent(s) will take a turn for the Daemon. The Daemon can only be used to attack the Warband that spawned it and must always be used aggressively towards the warband.  It and will return into the void after the battle.
11-12 Sorcery:
The Chaos Warrior has opened his soul to his Lord and has been gifted with a vision of darkness. Amid the swirling chaos of the vision the Warrior learns dark secrets from another plane. The Warrior has gained limited Sorcery abilities and may make a roll on the Chaos Rituals table (see Mordheim official rules page 43) to see the spell gained. A subsequent Sorcery Blessing gained grants a second roll on the Chaos Rituals table.

This blessing may be received 2 times before invoking Khorne's Wrath.
Overpowering Chaos:
The dark energies of Chaos are too much for this warrior to truly control. Any time he fails to successfully cast a Dark Ritual he is instantly struck by a Vision of Torment and is immediately stunned, no saves are allowed to resist the stun.
